HOW TO FIND CLOTHES THAT FLATTER YOU PART I

Have you ever shopped online and found a skirt or a dress that you just loved? However, when it finally concluded its long journey and landed in your mailbox you soon realized that it was the exact opposite of what you wanted? Well, this scenario happens time and time again for those who don't know those tips and tricks for finding the perfect garments for your body type. Here is something that might help you discover what is right for you.

COLOR:

Red- this is a very bold and bright color. Red is a perfect color for when you need to steal the show or make a statement. If you are someone who is confident with your body, this color is perfect for you.

Orange- Orange is a color that along with red is very bright. If you consider yourself someone with a spunky and fun personality, Orange is definitely for you.

Yellow- This color is best as an accent. I especially like yellow as piping on a blazer or a nice yellow bangle.

Green- Green is a perfect winter color. Olive and darker greens compliment darker skin while pastels green and sea foam green compliment lighter skin. Green is a great color for accessories such as scarves or gloves.

Blue- Well obviously there are jeans and jeans go with virtually everything. However, blue is a very flexible color and comes in many shapes and sizes. Blue works it's magic; whether its an evening dress or a t shirt, blue is perfect for everyone.

Purple- Most of you probably know this, but purple was considered royalty. Its still a very luxurious color, but in my opinion, it along with yellow, looks better as an accent. It is a subtly bright color that can either look really good, or really bad. However, as an accent there is no risk of either extreme and just adds a little pop.

Brown- Brown is a very earthy color and is usually associated with bohemain or indie style clothing. Brown is a very neutral color that looks good as any article of clothing.

Black- Black along with purple is very subtly bright. Not bright as in blinding, but bright as in it is a color that will stand out. So, if you are confident with your body and figure, black is a color that would suit not only your body, but also your personality.

Part II will be coming out soon, so stay tuned!

ciao for now,
Caitlin

Winter Part #1
Blacks and whites and nudes and grays,
are perfect for those cold winter days.
A pea coat, a scarf, or even a hat,
will widen you smile and I'm sure of that.

A trend I love, and share with you,
will make you feel warm and less blue,
For layering up is very chic,
and will compliment your rosy cheeks.

Howdy y'all! So its winter time and you know what that means? Waking up to 28 degree weather. However, this year, a great trend that is going around is layers. Yes that's right, wearing extreme amounts of clothing is considered fashionable! Now I'm not saying it never was, but you'll definitely get compliments if you walk down the street wearing a jacket, a coat, a hat, gloves and most importantly ear muffs. That's a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point.
Below are some cheeky websites that have some cute, yet affordable clothing for winter! Enjoy!

How to turn Comfywear into Fancywear

I always jump at an opportunity to wear comfy clothes. Because sometimes it is just too tiring to wear all those uncomfortable shoes and tight pants and short skirts. And I know that when you pull out that pair of old sweatpants, you just stare and stare at them. Because the only people who wear old sweatpants and sneakers are pregnant women in their third trimester , gym teachers, and fat college kids. And I get that. You want to be taken seriously ( no offense to all you pregnant women in your third trimester , gym teachers, and fat college kids).  But I swear, there is a way to look sharp in sweats. And you better enjoy this one, because it took a lot of brainpower.

1) Have Nice sweats

Brands I prefer:

Sweatpants

Urban Outfitters Loungewear-                   Comfy but also practical sweatpants.

Sneakers

White Converse-                    Classic. Just plain classic.

Supergas-                          Who knew sneakers could be so Mediterranean chic?!

2) Wear Nice tops and Nice Shoes (One or the other or both)

For tops, preferably something with a bold pattern, or something silk, or something sparkly. If you look like someone from the 70's then you hit the nail right on the head. The best places to buy reasonably
priced ones are at Madewell and J. Crew.

                  Meshnot Top

sessùn™ balsamine silk top

        Matte Sequin Top

 Collection Metallic Marigold Top
Flora Lace Peplum Top

For Shoes:

Any super sleek shoe will work. I know that some of you will stare widemouthed at the computer when  you see this but I do think heels are appropriate in this case, and I think its super important to add some height in your shoes to lengthen your legs.  I mean, come on, your wearing sweatpants for gods sakes!

Just In case you haven't had enough yet, I put together some outfits from my own closet as inspiration for you guys using one pair of sweatpants:

Ladylike : Oxford pumps + embroidered blouse + Sweatpants

70's Disco Star: Floral silk button down shirt +  gold oxfords + Sweatpants

 Super Chic CEO:
white silk short sleeve blouse + black booties + Sweatpants

Peace Love and Sweatpants!

Xoxo,

Ruby

The Photo Shoot Experience

Over the summer, I attended a fashion "camp" called the fashion class. It was super fun and I am planning on going there next year. I signed up for a total of five weeks and each week we focused on a different aspect of the design process. For the last week that I was there for, we put together our own photo shoot! We had a model casting the first day and selected our models by the second. Professional hair and makeup artists came in and we also had a pro photographer. The whole experience was so fun and I love the end result. Here are some photos from the shoot. Enjoy!

Ciao For Now,

Why Wrong Is Most Definitely Right

Sometimes these days, fashion can be unpredictable. AND I LOVE THAT. Nothing is cooler than when you see someone one the street who is wearing something so weird, and yet, they look pretty great. Isn't Funny how things can be wrong, but be right? Make no sense, and yet, make sense?

Ok, now I'm not making sense.

The funny thing is, though, sometimes it has nothing to do with the clothing. It has to do with-

wait for it......

The personality and confidence of the person wearing it.

If you feel confident in what your wearing, than the clothes you wear seem infinitely cooler to not only you, but other people too (body language, people!).  Even if they AREN'T necessarily perceived as "cool", you wouldn't believe how quickly people complement you. I take back my last statement, because NEVER have I seen a case of something not being "cool".

But anyways....

Here are some tips and tricks that give me that boost to strut my stuff, even if my stuff's cuckoo.

Tip #1- Dress in a way that shows who you are

A feather boa? Unique, but not me. A feather boa worn with printed pants and oxford? A HUNDRED times better.

Tip #2- Wear Clothes that you think are "cool"

Geometric Leopard leggings may not be considered cool, but if they are in your mind, then go for it. Who knows, maybe tomorrow you will have started a new trend.......

Tip #3- Body Language

I know that probably 80% percent of you have parents who did at one point or still pester you about posture. And TRUST ME, I understand how annoying that can be. But, truth be told, If your posture's bad, you look bad. Not to get all deep on you, but if your slouched, then people see you as sad, or unconfident, or possibly on drugs.

Just Kidding.

But Seriously, Stand up straight. You want to read as someone who's not to be messed with, someone who is 100% certain that they are the bomb dot com. Someone who is, to quote a VERY popular song-

"Sexy and they know it".

Tip #4- Don't Stress About how you Dress (See what I did there?!)

I have a BIIIGGGGGG problem with this one, because stressing is my middle name. But if you think to hard about what you where, then it's most likely that you pick something that your not happy with in the end. Sometimes really cool things happen when you blindfold yourself and just pick random items of clothing.

The typical way to end something like this would be something along the lines of "Hope I boosted your confidence!!! *Heart Emotocon* *Smiley Face*"

But the truth is, I can't do anything to your confidence, as much as I wish I could. Having confidence is something only you can give yourself.

On that note,

Ciao for now ladies.
(thought we needed a change of pace from the XOXO thing)

Dressing Your Best: Dressing Right For Day and Night

Whenever we walk down the aisles of boutiques or department stores, all of the garments are priced somewhere from a zillion to a gillion dollars. We (Ruby and I) always think to ourselves: "Why do we have to pay so much for one little teeny tiny microscopic thing?" The answer: We don't. This post is going to show you how to transform a main garment piece (ex. dress, leggings etc.) from a day time look, into an evening head-turning outfit.

Dressing Your Best: Basing outfits on One Special Piece

It seems that everyone is always in a rush. Wake up, get dressed, run to work or school. Run home. Repeat. So sometimes there's just not enough time to really think about what your going to wear the next day, or what top looks good with what skirt, etc. For those days when you have five minutes to put on something that WON'T make it look like you just raided the dumpster, I like using a special system I call "Basing outfits around one piece" (Yes, I am aware that that's not a very creative name.)
Its really quite simple. There are 2 different ways to follow this process:

WAY 1: Pick a theme
Say you have this adorable J. Crew Tee-
Now the first thing you have to do requires some brain power and creativity. You have to think of what kind of theme this shirt fits under, or at least some adjectives to describe the shirt. So in this case, I would say:
-nautical
-summer
-pastel
So now I have some brief ideas of the "theme" of my outfit. Lets say I pick "nautical" as my theme.
Then you could pair this shirt with some white shorts and Sperry top-sider boat shoes. Or maybe some red skinny jeans and sandals. Or maybe some cutoffs and converse sneakers....

See! Once you pick a theme, the possibilities are endless. And how long did it take me to pick out the outfits I wrote above? I don't know, maybe 2 minutes, tops?

WAY 2 : Let Special Pieces Shine
Every girl should have AT LEAST one or two special pieces. Special pieces can be anything from a graphic print sweater, or a sequined skirt, or some kick-ass shoes. Anything that you think stands out on  it's own.

So here are some shoes from Urban Outfitters that I LOVE LOVE LOVE:

I classify these shoes as "special" because they're metallic and shiny and follow the now very current menswear trend. So once you've picked your special piece,  picking the rest of the outfit is simple. Literally. Your special piece should be the star of the show, so the rest of the outfit should be understated and uncomplicated. Pieces like chambray shirts, cutoffs, solid colored jeans and tops, sandals, and white sneakers are perfect attributes to a special piece.

Hope I saved you time and energy.
XOXO,
Ruby
